The National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers (NABH) and the National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) are the constituents of the Quality Council of India that work to ensure the delivery of quality healthcare with a focus on patient safety. This is a Herculean task, diverse as our country is. Despite the many challenges, there are now numerous accredited healthcare institutions across India. A historic step taken by NABH and NABL was the creation of a common platform for all the accredited healthcare organisations and laboratories - the Consortium of Accredited Healthcare Organisations (CAHO).
The members of CAHO share best practices to enhance their journey towards the delivery of quality healthcare, and to encourage other hospitals to join the quest for complete accreditation. The role played by CAHO has become all the more important in light the recent guidelines issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India: that all empanelled hospitals obtain pre-accreditation entry-level certification as the minimum level of quality within the next two years.
I congratulate CAHO for fulfilling the premise for which it was created. It is rightfully becoming the supporting organisation for activities related to NABH and NABL. I hope that CAHOCON will further create awareness amongst stakeholders and I wish CAHOCON 2017 a great success.
