The CAHO Student Engagement Committee (SEC) is committed to building awareness, knowledge, and competencies among students in the fields of patient safety, quality assurance, and healthcare excellence. In alignment with CAHO’s mission to foster a culture of quality in healthcare, the committee serves as a dynamic platform for learning, leadership, collaboration, and career development. By engaging students from diverse healthcare disciplines, the SEC strives to nurture the next generation of healthcare professionals to become future champions of patient safety, quality improvement, and continuous improvement in the healthcare ecosystem.

Objectives

Promote Awareness of Patient Safety and Quality Standards
Advocate for the early introduction of patient safety and quality assurance concepts within the curriculum of healthcare professional education, including medical, dental, nursing, and allied health sciences.
Foster Academic and Institutional Integration
Collaborate with academic institutions, regulatory bodies, and government authorities to incorporate safety and quality frameworks into healthcare training programs.
Build Student Competency through Structured Training and Workshops
Design and deliver specialized training modules and workshops, including foundational and advanced programs in quality assurance, hospital infection control, and other key healthcare domains.
Facilitate National and International Conferences and Learning Platforms
Organize student-focused conferences, webinars, workshops, and certificate programs in partnership with national forums, international organizations, and state-level commissions.
Support Research and Innovation in Quality and Safety
Encourage student-led research projects, case studies, and quality improvement initiatives aligned with global best practices in patient safety and process improvement.
Strengthen Career Readiness and Employability
Provide guidance, mentorship, and opportunities for internships, placements, and hands-on exposure in quality improvement, patient safety, and hospital operations to enhance employability.
Faculty Development in Patient Safety and Quality
Initiate faculty training and development programs to build internal capacity within institutions, enabling effective implementation of patient safety and quality concepts.
Integrate Patient Safety into Allied Health Sciences Curricula
Support the continuous integration and improvement of patient safety and quality frameworks within allied health sciences curricula to build a culture of safety among emerging healthcare professionals.
